Materials

Here are some materials for your own use. Be warned that these materials have NOT been updated since 2007 or early 2008 and are now OUTDATED because Colorado has switched to the Uniform Bar Examination (MBE, MEE, and MPT).  You can e-mail me atfrustratedbarexaminee@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Hi! I don’t know if you still check this or not because I’ve noticed that most updates are from 2008. I have taken the Ohio bar exam 3 times (one of the hardest states). The scaled score needs to be 405 and I received 400, 383 (better performance but with a really tough scale of only 60% passing), and this past time 396 (with a really easy scale of 81% passing). The first two tests, I did average on the essays but really poorly on the MBE (108 and 109 raw). The third time, I only studied for a short time (less than a month) and I got a 118 raw (using Beat-the-Bar), but really went down on the essays (I was trying the Essay Advantage strategies). My 118 raw on the MBE gave me a 137 scaled score, which is a big improvement for me and qualifies me to waive into several states.
Since you have taken it several times and have passed, I think even taken different states (?), I wondered if you have any pointers for me in that regard? I could take Ohio for the fourth time but after 3 times I’m no closer to passing, except that I’d have more time to spend on it and am doing better on the MBE. Or I could transfer my score to another jurisdiction and take essay only. Do you know anything about the essay exams in other states? Geographically, you are not so far from Wyoming – do you know anything about that exam or anyone who took it? I’m considering Wyoming, Connecticut, D.C., and Vermont. But the only ones I would want to live in are Wyoming or D.C. (because my husband hates the cold and the New England states are too cold), and I plan to stay in Ohio for a while first. The thing that makes me worry about the other states is that Ohio tests on almost everything you study, so you have many chances to prove yourself, but some of the other states (D.C. and Vermont I think) give you a lot more to study than you are actually tested on, so it makes me think if you have a weak subject, you are out of luck.
Any thoughts? I’m still deciding what to do!
    Thanks!

I appreciate anything that helps one pass a bar. I’m a fossil in Ca & hope to try in c. 1 1/2 yrs. Ca bar gives me credit for 2yrs of schl that I finished a long time ago. I just fished a semester studying w/an attorney; need to send in report which could be a problem. Then need new attorney, school or corrspndnc. I hve been briefing cases, going to court and reading old exams. I am weak in black letter law. Hve ideas but would like to hear other’s thoughts and experiences. Thank you. Don

I don’t know whether it’s just me or if everyone
else encountering issues with your site. It looks like
some of the written text within your posts are running off the screen.
Can somebody else please comment and let me know
if this is happening to them too? This could be a issue with my internet browser
because I’ve had this happen before. Kudos
